About Sunitha Bisan

How can I contribute to gender and ecological justice.". This has been my life passion. I am honoured and grateful for all the collaborations I have been part of to create such impact. I use a multi-solving lens that combines gender and legal analysis in my work. My expertise includes project design, project management, monitoring and evaluation. I enjoy developing approaches to enrich stakeholder engagements from governments to local communities. My students and colleagues have described me as passionate and resourceful. My experiences focus on problem solving, the ability to work well in teams, and the ability to develop strong relationships with stakeholders. I am honoured that I had the opportunity to lead a community participatory research on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and Climate Justice in Sarawak, Malaysia that highlighted the nexus of climate challenges and gender-based violence. It was recognized by in 2019. In 2021, with Act Alliance Europe, we collaborated in a research that showed the persistent gaps in gender and climate action. Much needs to be done to increase the importance of gender perspectives, feminist views and mainstreaming ecology in governance are key for a just future. This journey is made possible with the unwavering support from my husband, Guna and family. The lessons from my beloved father, Bisan Singh and my mentor Dato' Sri Dr Anwar Fazal. My present development to my professors and peers whose insights and collaborations are deeply appreciated. I am always looking for opportunities that will allow me to promote and develop approaches that can increase visibility of gender in sustainability and environmental governance. Thank you.
