About Suraj J. Pathak

As a postdoctoral researcher at the Salk Institute, I am part of the Wu-Tsai Performance Alliance in Dr. Satchin Panda's laboratory, a collaborative initiative that aims to optimize health outcomes. Here, I will apply and develop my expertise in metabolic phenotyping and physiology to investigate how feeding and lifestyle interventions affect gene expression and metabolism in different tissues. I earned my PhD in Molecular, Cellular, and Integrative Physiology from UC Davis in the lab of Dr. Keith Baar, where I conducted research on the effects of a ketogenic diet on skeletal muscle and cognitive function in female mice-identifying a mechanism by which a ketogenic diet reduces the circulation of a neurotoxin. Further, I optimized a natural product cocktail to enhance muscle hypertrophy, and discovered the potential of ribosome acetylation to improve translation.most importantly, I am passionate about advancing the understanding of the molecular and physiological basis of health and disease, and translating my findings into practical applications.
