About Surane Weerasinghe
Like so many of us, I was an animal lover growing up, and the wonders of Earth's biodiversity continue to amaze me everyday. As I got older, I learned more about the plight of billions of animals around the world, and soon realized how they desperately needed strong voices to come to their defense. I saw journalism as a potential megaphone to help get important stories about animals and wildlife out in the open, and started shooting. My beginnings as a television news reporter in Northern Ontario, Canada have led me to specialize in multimedia content and documentary film in the United States. A graduate of the Columbia Journalism School's M.S. program, I received class honors in Multimedia Storytelling. Along the path, I discovered the true power potential of media today. My ongoing mission is to come up with new digital strategies to showcase animals, humans, and nature, in order to help us better understand our planet and our role as its dominant species.
