About Surendra Joshi

Over 25 years of experience in the development sector with a range of organisations and projects in support of livelihoods diversification, sustainable food system, value chain development, climate change adaptation and resilient building. Surendra is a Senior Resilient Livelihoods Specialist, currently working as a Coordinator of the Himalayan Resilience Enabling Action Programme (HI-REAP) supported by the FCDO, UK under their Climate Action for Resilient Asia (CARA) initiative. He has previously held roles at ICIMOD as a Coordinator for European Union’s Himalica Programme, and the Atmosphere Watch Initiative, and Head of Living Mountain Lab. His contributions extend beyond ICIMOD, encompassing advisory and coordination roles at GIZ/INCLUDE Programme and SNV and for projects supported by EC (Bangladesh), ADB (Bhutan), and IFC (Nepal). He has a PhD in Applied Natural Sciences from the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, Vienna, Austria. He has a great passion working with bees and blossoms. His outstanding work in Nepalese honey earned him the Crown Prince Youth Science and Technology Award. He has been invited to present papers, chair sessions, and give keynote speeches to various workshops, symposium and conferences, and has authored a number of research papers, book chapters, training manual and resource books on the topics: value chain development, climate resilient agricultural practices, nature-positive adaptation solutions, honeybee pollination and beekeeping. He enjoys work that is challenging, interesting, and ensures quantifiable results of improved quality of life for rural households with co-benefit to nature.
