About Susan Maples
Currently the Director (CEA B) of the Economic and Statistical Research Bureau (ESRB) with the Franchise Tax Board (FTB). I have been with the FTB for nearly 30 years. I started as an auditor working in the residency program before moving over to audits of business entities. After 13 years in audit, I became a public affairs spokesperson and presenter with the education and outreach program. From there I was selected to be the Taxpayers' Rights Advocate, a position I held for nearly six years. As Advocate, I managed our education and outreach program, our online publication Tax News, set up FTB's Tax Appeals Assistance Program, and acted as the trusted voice in disputes between taxpayers and FTB. Since 2020, I have been in my current director role in ESRB where we provide high quality revenue estimates to external stakeholders using tax data. I am also one of the department's subject matter experts when it come to California's EITC and other anti poverty tax credits. I earned my Certified Public Accountant license in 2002.
