I define a leader as anyone who takes responsibility for finding the potential in people and processes” - Brene Brown This quote by Brene Brown defines what we do in schools as leaders everyday. It is finding the potential in our staff and our students. It is working with those staff closely so we can unlock their potential and help them to live it out. It is constantly reflecting and tweaking what we do and how we can achieve the very best for all students. After more than 20 years working in Catholic Education in Melbourne, Australia, I am still constantly learning and growing. My core value is initiative. Seeing any situation from the eyes of all stakeholders, and then acting on that appropriately, is incredibly important when working in a school. Ensuring I am in classrooms and building those relationships with all staff and students is the key to leading with integrity, vulnerability and generosity. My aim is to also be the best staff member and support to those I work with. I believe that a school is a place where every child has the opportunity to flourish and fulfill their potential. The importance of a student's well being can not be overlooked. Having a focus on wellbeing and students feeling psychologically safe, will ensure their willingness and readiness to learn. In this profession I am constantly on a learning journey. Ongoing professional development and learning is the key to continuing my development as a leader in Catholic Education. Also, getting feedback from staff and providing the best possible Professional Development that supports the school’s vision and the learning of all students. Leading a team with kindness, love and generosity is at the core of all I do.
