About Susan Thom

After a fabulous career in corporate communication with over 40 years of experience in strategic communications, media and community relations, Susan is finally stepping back to enjoy her grandsons, do volunteer work, do Watercolour painting and travel. Susan was with BC Housing for 19 years and left the organization in June 2012 to launch "a new chapter" as the principal of Thom Communications for a number of years. Prior to joining BC Housing in 1993, she was the Regional Director of Public Affairs with the former Employment and Immigration Canada where she was employed for 17 years. Susan was a Director on the Coast Mental Health Foundation Board for seven years where she volunteered on a number of committees including the high profile Courage To Come Back Awards Gala. She stepped down in 2019 and turned her attention to being a Big Sister to a 13 year old girl from a single mom family. They’ve been together for four years and Jos is now 17 years old. Susan was an Accredited Business Communicator with the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) for many years and has served in different capacities on their local, national and international boards. Over the years, she has earned some 18 provincial, national and international awards from both IABC and the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) for various communications programs.
