About Susan Vanderplas
My research is in statistical forensics, data visualization, and data science. In forensics, I am involved in projects to develop methods to analyze footwear impression and firearm evidence. In data visualization, I study the interaction between perception and statistical graphics, and how to best present information so that we can draw accurate conclusions from visual information. In both areas, I like to approach problems by combining the strengths of human cognition and machine learning.
