About Susannah Pate

I support businesses to grow through positive communications and connections, working largely as a freelance contractor with the brilliant team at Jane Craigie Marketing (JCM & Co) as well as doing my own freelance projects. With a background in and a love of good food and farming, I work predominantly with businesses in the rural, agricultural and food sphere in B2B and trade communications but I cut my teeth in consumer-facing PR. I've worked with rural start-ups to urban icons and industry-leading organisations including Edinburgh's Hogmanay, The Scotch Whisky Experience, Ardanaiseig Hotel, Williamson Orchard, The Oxford Farming Conference, LEAF Open Farm Sunday, Scottish Quality Crops, The Institute of Auctioneers and Appraisers in Scotland and Scottish Agronomy. B2B communications in agriculture, food and land-based consultancy services are at the core of what I do, but I retain my roots in consumer PR and have our own diversified farming business which gives me insights to support diversified farming and rural tourism enterprises. I've worked in cities, married a farmer. I'm part of the amazing and progressive networks of the Scottish Rural Leadership Programme alumni and Scottish Agritourism, and an Oxford Farming Conference Emerging Leader. I'm also a member of the British Guild of Agricultural Journalists (BGAJ), the Chartered Institute of PR (CIPR) and the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). My main goal is to connect businesses with their audiences, consistently, creatively and effectively. I get a buzz from big ideas that come from small places and love the power of collaboration and making connections to bring about greater things for all involved. On a daily basis, I will be found helping businesses build their brand identity and implement strategic communications; writing press releases and liaising with journalists; copy writing for websites, marketing material and newsletters; storytelling through the media, digital and networks.
