About Susanne Tonsing

I am Chief Project Officer (since 2020) at Stellenbosch University, Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences in Cape Town. I co-manage a team of clinical research staff, and oversee grants and finances for the team. Between 2015 to 2020 I was employed at SU as a Clinical Project Coordinator in the same team. My background is in research psychology (MA, University of Pretoria). I was previously employed at the Violence, Injury and Peace Research Unit (VIPRU) at the South African Medical Research Council (MRC). At the MRC I worked as project coordinator during 2014, and as senior researcher for several years before that. I specialized in qualitative research, with excellent skills in writing and editing. I have well-developed organizational and planning skills. I have also consulted for various research firms including Southern Hemisphere, InsideOut Research as well as for the University of Cape Town. My interests lie with evaluation, as well as project and grants management and financial projection in the research field. I currently act as the liaison between accountants that manage grants and funds, and the research operations that utilize the funds as per budget. I have extensive experience with grants budgeting.
