Background
About Sushil Barala
I’m Sushil Barala and my journey in physics and teaching began in 6th grade when my teacher, Raman Boora Ma’am, recognized my potential after I created a project on electrical conductivity. That encouragement fueled my passion, leading me to participate in science exhibitions, where I secured first prize in 2008 and 2009. Those early experiences shaped my curiosity and set me on the path of scientific exploration. Currently, I am in last phase of submitting my PhD ain Physics at BITS Pilani, specializing in metal oxide semiconductor-based nanostructures, focusing on their growth mechanisms, material properties, and gas-sensing applications. As the first scholar in my lab, I proactively set up the entire research facility, which is now benefiting five junior researchers. My work has resulted in multiple publications in reputed journals such as Physica Status Solidi A, Physica Scripta, and RSC Advances. Beyond research, I am deeply committed to teaching and mentoring. As a Teaching Assistant at BITS Pilani, I guided students in General and Advanced Physics Labs, helping them develop experimental skills, data analysis techniques, and a deeper conceptual understanding of physics. These experiences have honed my ability to simplify complex ideas and make learning engaging. I also gained industry-relevant experience as a Project Assistant at CSIR-CEERI, where I worked on semiconductor materials. Academically, I have demonstrated my strong foundation by clearing CSIR-NET JRF (AIR 90) and GATE-Physics. I have also received several recognitions, including the Best Oral Presentation Award at VIT Vellore and the Best Poster Presentation Award at BITS Pilani’s Research Scholar Day 2024. Beyond academics, I believe in applying physics to solve real-world problems. I developed an automatic water motor cut-off system to prevent water wastage in my neighborhood and collaborated on a project during my M.Sc. to assist blind individuals in crossing roads. Additionally, I have been an active participant in NCC and NSS, won second prize twice in inter-university science exhibitions, and secured first prize twice in inter-zone quiz competitions. I aim to foster a concept-driven, research-oriented, and interactive learning environment. My goal is not just to teach physics but to inspire students to think critically, innovate, and apply their knowledge to real-world challenges. I am truly excited about the possibility of contributing to academic excellence.
