Background
About Susie T.
I will almost always say yes to improbable ideas. These include taking over Piccadilly Circus with Es Devlin and Machiko Weston’s artwork about nuclear threat and the climate crisis; the UK’s first Syrian death metal performance; Field Music's concept album about the end of the First World War described by the Irish Times as 'clever, illuminating brilliance'; and Anagram’s AI border guard from the future. I am the Artistic Director & CEO of Metal Culture who work with artists and communities to transform places; a trustee of Battersea Arts Centre; a commissioner/trustee of Historic England; a member of English Heritage’s London Blue Plaques Panel and a founding member of Historic England's national Blue Plaques scheme. My roots are in theatre, festivals and public art and I have presented work with Artichoke, BBC Radio 6 Music, London Jazz Festival, Imperial War Museums - where I was director of public engagement - and many more. As a writer, I received a London Writers Award, was shortlisted for the Wasafiri New Writing Prize, took part in The Stinging Fly's Summer School and am working on a collection of short stories. My work often includes: art for social change; cross-disciplinary programmes; unlikely partnerships; intersections of digital and physical; critical thinking; self-critique within institutions; large-scale; public realm; community building; empathy; trauma; education; audience feedback; artist residencies; building creative teams; migration; music and sound; legacies of colonialism; access and diversity.
