About Suzanne Edison

I am a poet, educator and former psychotherapist. I teach writing workshops for clinicians and parents who live, or work with, people with ongoing mental and physical health challenges. I teach at Richard Hugo House, UCSF's Chronic Illness Center, and formerly at Seattle Children's Hospital. I am also a health advocate and currently the Mental Health Coordinator for the Cure JM Foundation. In this role I develop emotional and mental health programs, resources, and support systems for caregivers and patients living with JM. Additionally, I help provide resources and information for medical providers to assist them with integrating mental health care into their pediatric rheumatology practices. I have been the recipient of grants for poetry and art projects from City Artists, 4Culture and Artist Trust, all in Seattle. I collaborated on a creative writing and visual art project called, The Body Lives Its Undoing, with the Benaroya Research Institute in Seattle. My full length book of poems, Since the House Is Burning is forthcoming in 2022. My poems have appeared in JAMA, HEAL, CMAJ, Ars Medica, The Examined Life Journal, Rise Up Review, Michigan Quarterly Review and Naugatuck River Review, among other places. My chapbook, The Moth Eaten World, was published by Finishing Line Press in May 2014. It focuses on a parent's journey with a child living with chronic illness or ongoing health issues. The Body Lives Its Undoing, a poetry and visual art chapbook was published by Benaroya Research Institute in 2018. I am a 2019 alum of Hedgebrook, A Women's Writing Residency.
