About Suzanne Oconnor

I have more than two decades of teaching, leadership, administration and managerial experience in public education. Since I have served the City of New Britain in two teaching roles, with heavy involvement in curriculum development, extra-curricular leadership and ongoing professional development. Throughout my career I have gravitated to leadership positions. I am proud to be a part of the teaching, administrative and support team which works daily to fulfill our vision of “Pursuing Excellence One Student at a Time.” I have deep knowledge in the related fields of child development, as well as experience with social emotional programming. As a member of a Schoolwide Leadership Team, I analyze data and help develop and implement strategies which improve student performance. I played a leadership role in integrating Restorative Practices, a trauma-informed approach to progress discipline which involves an understanding of the effects of ones’ actions on others and continuous, positive relationship building. I also served as Co-lead/developer of XTREME – a STEM-based middle school summer programming for at risk students. Education is not only my profession, but a key part of my life. I am dedicated to the habit of lifelong learning. I have earned a Sixth Year Degree in Educational Leadership, a Master of Music, a Bachelor of Science in Education, and valid Intermediate Administrator Certification (092). I enjoy connecting with other professionals on LinkedIn, discussing industry trends and best practices, and continuing my lifelong learning process.
