I am a graduate of the Technical University of the Shannon: Midlands with a BSc Hons of Science in Biotechnology. • I currently work for Serosep Ltd as a Molecular Diagnostics QC Scientist 1. • I have a vast range of experience with a range of analytical techniques from throughout my degree including; Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy, Gas Chromatography, High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Reverse Osmosis, Endotoxin/Pyrogen analysis (LAL), bioinformatics techniques (MEGAX). •The chromatographic techniques and centrifugation skills I have learned have been particularly useful in my career thus far. •I also have experience with PCR, of all types, including RT-PCR and qPCR and RT-qPCR (including a range of primers and probes). •Cell culture skills and cell culture contamination were a central theme to my degree, with particular emphasis on master and working cell banks, and contamination be it biological (mycoplasma, or bacterial/viral) or chemical. • Cancer has been of particular interest to me with many experiments emphasising on the handling and characterisation of cancer cell lines such as HEPG2. • I have an in depth understanding of ELISA and microarray technology including Western, northern and southern blot assays in performing analyses of the different types of proteins and nucleic acids; DNA, cDNA, mRNA, miRNA etc as well as carrying out cytokine arrays. • Nanotechnology has also been a primary area of focus. •My laboratory skills were a key area of constant assessment throughout my degree to ensure competence, and giving confidence for working with a range of molecules (in particular inorganic and organic samples, proteins and nucleic acids) and cell culture samples as well as analytical instruments.
