About Suzanne Oliver

I am a full-stack developer passionate about design and its impact on the experience of the applications we build. My experience working in large organizations has taught me that enterprise software is not easy to use. When I started at Mayo Clinic, I spent several years supporting different applications used in areas from the operating room to the emergency department. Late night calls and pleas for help illuminated how difficult it was to use such complex software applications while trying to provide quality care for the patient. Since then, I knew I wanted to design better experiences for those amazing people who take care of us during our most vulnerable moments. Of the 20+ years as a full-stack developer, I’ve spent the last 5 years focusing on front-end development and user experience design. I wholeheartedly believe we need to improve how we design the applications we build by getting to know the people who will be using them and understanding their needs. One of my favorite physicians said about the software he used everyday, “Everything looks like a spreadsheet”. Since then it has been my goal to build better experiences and gain the design expertise to break out of the “spreadsheet” mold.
