About Suzanne Shores

I have thirteen years of experience in healthcare leadership within large tertiary care facilities and academic medical centers. As the Manager of Advanced Practice Providers in Greensboro, NC, I grew the practice from two certified nurse midwives in 2008 to ten in 2013 and established a sustainable structure for the practice of midwifery within a tertiary care center. I worked with hospital administration to utilize Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) as the main healthcare providers in the triage/emergency department of the Women’s Hospital of Greensboro. Recognizing the need to unite all of the hospital’s APPs, I established an annual event to recognize and facilitate networking of the more than 60 nurse practitioners, physician assistants, midwives, and nurse anesthetists employed by Women’s Hospital. In 2013, I relocated in Pittsburgh, PA to assume the role of Director for the Division of Midwifery and Advanced Practice Providers for the UPMC Women’s Health Service Line. Over the 8 years in that role, I had the opportunity to create and develop the role of the midwife laborist, create and implement a career ladder for nurse midwife faculty at the University of Pittsburgh and to create and implement the role of the lead APP and Lead CNM to facilitated clinical leadership across the service line specific to APPs and midwives. I developed and implemented a pilot program focused on bridging the gap in care between obstetrics and mental health for patients with perinatal mood disorders. I have a passion and proven track record in improving quality and patient/provider satisfaction through the recognition and advancement of midwives and advanced practice providers in large healthcare systems. I continue to provide strategic planning, change management, implementation management and quality improvement to the health care system space as a private consultant.
