About Suzanne Timmermans

Combining my biotechnology research background with a passion for connecting science with society, I am exploring opportunities to bridge these worlds. I enjoy guiding and communicating with people of different backgrounds and am passionate about contributing to society through science. Driven by my inquisitive nature and curiosity about life at a molecular level I have started my academic journey with my Molecular Life Science studies. This has allowed me to delve into understanding how diseases arise and how they can be fixed. During my PhD research, I explored the development of artificial organelles, offering insights into biochemistry, protein engineering, and nanotechnology in a multidisciplinary research setting. In my recent Postdoc role, I have expanded my knowledge in the field of organ-on-chip technology for animal free modelling of Parkinson's disease and explored the road of technology transfer from lab to the market. Guiding others, communicating scientific findings to diverse audiences, and organizing projects and activities have been consistent highlights in my career. My creative approach to visualizing and communicating science, coupled with problem-solving skills has proven invaluable in both professional and personal settings. These skills have allowed me to contribute to organizing a research symposium and several social activities, and as a reporter and editor of the magazine of my sports association. My involvement as an ambassador for Young TPI has deepened my understanding of the importance of clear communication in science outreach. This experience has reinforced my passion for bridging the gap between scientific advancements and society's understanding. Leveraging my strong collaboration, communication, and writing skills from my research experience, I aim to continue this mission along my career path. As a next step, I want to continue the transition from a research role into a position that allows me to employ my emphatic nature and communication skills to help others. I would love to make use of my scientific background and interests in biotechnology, communication, and graphic design in a job where I can develop myself in a team environment and where I can help others, e.g. through inspiring and educating others, offering advice and guidance, communicating science, generating new ideas, and/or overcoming important challenges.
