About Suzy Blok

Suzy Blok is head of ICK Artist Space which fulfills the function of Amsterdam dance production house as part of ICK Amsterdam. From 2013 until 2020 she was artistic & general director of the production house Dansmakers Amsterdam. In 2021 Dansmakers merged into ICK. Before she worked for many years as choreographer, film-maker, curator, dramaturg, dancer and artistic director. She's co-founder and board-member of the Moving Futures Festival, a yearly festival for emerging choreographic talent: Movingfutures.nl as well as chairman of the board of Summerdance Forever Festival, board-member of European Dancehouse network and partner of Aerowaves network. Artistic background Suzy began creating her own work as choreographer in 1986 after her dance studies at the Theaterschool (Amsterdam University of the Arts). She collaborated with Christopher Steel under the name Blok & Steel until creating more than twenty performances as well as dancing. After the collaboration with Steel, she continued making and touring productions, in which she collaborated with composers, live musicians, designers, theatre-directors and video-artists. She received several awards for her work which were presented at international festivals such as Spring dance, Julidans, Dance Umbrella, Klapstuk Festival, Nouvelle Danse in Montreal and many others. Curator From 2007 - 2013 Suzy was artistic director of “I Like To Watch Too”: a yearly event involving dance performances, installations and other disciplines at the Paradiso in Amsterdam as part of the Julidans Festival. Punch: a festival for emerging (inter)national dance artists, organized by Dansmakers Amsterdam. Moving Futures festival: co-curator 2014- Filmmaker Suzy made several dance films which are screened internationally at festivals, such as Dance Screen-IMZ, Cinedans, Shanghai World Expo 2010, BIPOD festival, South-Africa, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and on Dutch, Belgian and British television. Titles a.o: Tus Ojos Negros, Still You (International Dance Screen Award), Up at Down, Reimerswaal. She choreographed the feature film Ja zuster, Nee zuster (directed by: Pieter Kramer). And for tv: Annie MG (2008); Moeder, Ik wil bij de revue (2012). Site-specific: De Rite Fan Wetter in Friesland in 2008. I.c.w. composer Hoite Pruiksma for 7 dancers and 7 musicians.
