About Sven Hermeling

Originally from Hannover, I started studying Biochemistry in Göttingen before moving to Munich for my masters. I had multiple opportunities to extend the basic knowledge in fields like Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Informatics gained from the excellent Biochemistry programs in both Göttingen and the TUM. Among these opportunities were jobs as a working student or voluntary participation in science communication projects, but also in excellent analytical labs, where I learned a lot about the workings of analytical method development and MS-based omics in general. During my PhD programs, I further trained and am still training these skills and came in touch with other topics like scientific project management. What I am most passionate about is the interplay of multiple disciplines, combining know-how from informatics and mathematics, chemistry, medicine and biology, which is reflected in my PhD project where I am applying both bioinformatic techniques for integration of different omics data types gained via different analytical methods, and transferring know-how from medical clinics back to in vitro and in vivo wet-lab systems.
