About Swathi Akella

I am a Research Assistant at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where I pursue my passion for public policy research and analysis. I am currently working on developing empirically grounded timelines for phasing out CO2-intensive infrastructure. Previously, I was involved in two projects that aim to enhance the competitiveness and innovation of Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area in the aviation and technology sectors. I have contributed to various aspects of the research process, such as surveying, data analysis, drafting, and proofreading. Prior to joining HKUST, I had over ten years of experience in the journalism and consulting industries, where I developed my core competencies in policy research and analysis. I worked as a Senior Consultant II at FTI Consulting, a global business advisory firm, in India, where I conducted policy research, risk analysis, stakeholder engagements, fraud investigation, etc. for clients across various sectors and geographies. I also worked as a journalist for several leading Indian news organizations, where I produced factual and exclusive news stories. Through my diverse and challenging experiences, I have gained a keen insight into the political, economic, and social issues that affect the region. I am motivated by the mission of producing high-quality and impactful policy research and analysis that can inform and influence decision-making and public discourse.
