About Sydney Higgins

The highest form of self-good is being able to give back to others. I believe that to truly give back to others, we must be able to make a significant sacrifice in our own lives. For me, this means taking time out of my schedule to do a lot of volunteer work. I feel at my best when I’m able to help others overcome political, emotional, social, and physical boundaries. Moreover, I find joy in the thought of pursuing a career that will help others learn that a life with a disability can be a life with more than enough ability to do anything you put your mind to. I also live by a Christian code of conduct. The Bible says, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ." Colossians 3:23-24. I find inspiration in this verse. Although I am not perfect, I find myself striving to perform well at work because I truly believe that I am working for the Lord, not because the work is easy, or because I gain recognition. The final value I would like to express is building relationships. I find joy in living a life surrounded by people who will pick me up when I am down and encourage me when I need it most. To live life to the fullest is to live life with others. Without this, we become lonely, anxious, and depressed. As recreational therapists, we must help individuals bolster their social well-being through adapted activities and targeted interventions. In conclusion, I believe in generously giving one’s self to those in need; I will follow a Christian code of conduct; and I hold the belief that a deep, sincere relationship is the key to building a meaningful and inspirational life.
