About Sydney Hitchell

Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Sydney Hitchell found her love of dance at a young age. When her family relocated to New Albany, Ohio, in 2013, she furthered her training at the New Albany Ballet Company in the Pre-Professional Division. Continuing her career in the arts, she attended The Hartt School Dance Division at the University of Hartford under the direction of Stephen Pier. Sydney graduated magna cum ladue in May 2021 with her BFA in Dance Performance and a Minor in Performing Arts Management. Her favorite opportunities at Hartt include: performing Martha Graham’s Chronicle, performing a Cunningham MinEvent featuring his Masterworks of BIPED and Pond Way, learning Lar Lubovitch’s Something About Night, and participating in the Island Moving Company Summer Intensives. After graduation Sydney relocated and joined Newport Contemporary Ballet (formerly Island Moving Company) as a Trainee. In 2021/2022 Sydney was apart of the company's celebratory 40th anniversary season. She performed original works at The Vet's Theatre in Providence, RI and a Newport Nutcracker at the Rosecliff Manison. During 2022/2023, Sydney expanded her collaborative skills by working with a variety of guest choreographers. In March 2023, Sydney pivoted away from NCB to heal a stress fracture in her shin. She still has a strong passion for dance, and loves supporting the arts in her local community. While Sydney is healing she is working at Kiel James Patrick Flagship location in Newport, RI as the Head of Store. Along with focusing on her teaching artist career. In her free time, Sydney loves to explore New England with her two dogs Dunkin and Hazel.
