About Sydney Spaulding

Sydney is a senior at Michigan State University with a 3.45 GPA, on track to graduate in April 2024 with a Bachelor's of Science in Anthropology (Archaeology and Museology focus) as well as a Double Minor in Leadership of Organizations, and Art History and Visual Culture. This educational path is taken in pursuit of a career leading large teams while working with collections, exhibits, and events in artistic/cultural organizations. Sydney has gained hands-on experience working with cultural material within archaeological fieldwork and labs and within related fields like museum education, not-for-profit organization operations, exhibit design, collections care, and special event planning. Additionally, she works full-time in the food and beverage industry to cover educational and living expenses. Sydney has eleven years of combined experience working as a host, server, bartender, team leader, and event coordinator, and has relied on hard work, caring service, and active communication to be successful as a corporate-certified trainer and -most recently- as an assistant manager for food, bar, and special event service. She has also taken advantage of the chance to enrich her education with extracurricular opportunities and activities. These include research assistant positions in the MSU Campus Archaeology Program and Zooarchaeology labs, presiding as Co-President of the Anthropology Club for two years, serving as the Anthropology representative for the College of Social Science Dean's Student Advisory Council, and two years spent as an in-school educational presenter for the MSU Museum. Sydney is skilled and experienced in research that employs the scientific method, laboratory and field techniques, interpretive communication and aesthetic design, leader-follower exchange, inclusive leadership of large teams, organizational planning, customer service, critical thinking, evidence-based decision-making, public speaking, conflict resolution, collaborative teamwork, cultural consideration, event planning, project management techniques, time management, financial management, professional writing, typing, database management, Microsoft Office and Google Workspace, graphic design, social media marketing, and organization.
