About Sydney Stenekes
I joined the Rural Development Network in 2020 and currently manage the organization’s homelessness program. I am deeply committed to advancing reconciliation in both my personal and professional work and have a strong passion for collaborating with and supporting rural, remote and Indigenous communities as they respond to social, economic, and environmental challenges. I hold a Master of Science in Risk and Community Resilience from the University of Alberta. My graduate research was completed in partnership with Kátł’odeeche First Nation, a Dene community in the Northwest Territories. My thesis focused on developing culturally appropriate indicators for the Nation’s community-based environmental monitoring program and explored how knowledge and data related to freshwater health are shared among governments, researchers, and communities.
