About Sylvia Biesenbach

After completing my law degree, I commenced my career in legal practice first with the Legal Aid Board, then O’Brien Inc. Attorneys, obtaining five years litigation experience (both in the Magistrates and High Court) relating to commercial law; medical law; public employee misconduct and negligence; criminal matters involving major indictable offences (Fraud, Murder, Rape and Robbery) and family law. As an associate at O’Brien Inc. Attorneys, I also assisted in managing the debt collection and conveyancing department, giving guidance and training on legislative changes and legal instructions to the relevant staff involved and improving the communication and services delivered to the clients. Managing these departments exposed me to broader commercial related matters, including drafting company Memorandum of Incorporations; investigating fraud and misconduct by company employees; advising clients and giving recommendations on matters relating to non-compliance with regulations and legislation, a breach of contract and drafting residential and commercial lease contracts. During 2012 I commenced supplementing my law degree with a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) degree, to further my interest in the corporate and commercial industry, particularly within the Governance field. During my first year of studies, I successfully landed a contract with PwC, to commence my Chartered Accountant articles. Unfortunately due to a family transfer to Sydney, Australia in September 2013 I was no longer in a position to complete my Commerce degree. After moving cities again, I took time off to start a family. In 2017 I joined Aegis Aged Care on a permanent part-time basis which provided the flexibility I needed to raise my family and the ability to positively contribute to a vulnerable group in our society. During this time I also successfully converted my law degree to an Australian equivalent through Edith Cowan University, completing studies in December 2019. I joined Frichot Lawyers in 2021, in their personal injury department, growing quickly into the role of associate and managing matters relating to workers' compensation, motor vehicle accident, criminal injuries and public liability type claims. In 2022, I joined McCabes as an associate, practicing insurance law, representing leading insurance providers for workers' compensation claims in the construction, health, mining and manufacturing industry. In 2025, I joined Gilchrist Connell as an associate, working in most areas of insurance law.
