Even nurses have to step out of the room and puke sometimes. The key is to come back ready for more with a smile on your face and a heart full of compassion.” These are the words that changed my life! I had written off nursing, there was no way I could spend my days around blood and puke and maintain any semblance of dignity. Hearing these words from a veteran nurse at a high school career fair changed everything! I had the heart for nursing and I was determined to develop the stomach for it too. In one week I changed colleges, changes degrees, and changed my life. That is our goal at CHI St. Alexius Health as we connect compassionate nurses with rewarding career opportunities. Nearly 200 years ago seven sisters traveled across the unforgiving plains to bring healing and hope to the people of the Dakota Territory, creating the first hospital in the region. We continue to live the vision of those brave sisters, to use our presence to extend Christ's healing ministry through excellence of service, collaborative relationships and a commitment to quality for those we serve.
