About Taj Omari
I learned how to swim before I learned how to walk. I was born with a rare bone disease that limited the range of motion in my hips. After extensive surgery, my mother took me to the pool for low impact exercise. Swimming was rehabilitating, rejuvenating, and empowering. Now, after 13 years of being a swim coach, swimming remains foundational to my life. However, the disparities in opportunities and resources between marginalized and affluent neighborhoods has long weighed on my heart. Providing access and opportunity to actively reduce the drowning rate in the Black community is my life's purpose.
