About Takara Tatum

Every one of us dreams, but sometimes if we’re lucky we have a dream that forces us to re-examine our principles and how we fundamentally approach our lives and what we want to accomplish. My dream, my vision of the future, is one where a child of any background has the opportunity for an education that gives them the resources to conquer life on their terms and not be held back because of where they started. I started my career in the film industry and while I loved my experiences there, I finally had my dream. I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives, so I turned to education. Education, to me, is the cornerstone of a successful society. A meaningful education can help balance the playing field for a student of any background and lead them to greater success as an adult. Most of my students come from low-income families and have few resources outside of the school. My classroom provides them the opportunity to see, touch, and experience things they might not get to elsewhere. Teaching gives me the opportunity in one small way to shape the future. I love getting to show kids how much they can accomplish with a little effort when they take an interest in their learning. I know that I can’t fulfill my dream on my own but I believe I’m doing my part to make it a reality.
