About Takeru Sugimoto

Throughout my career, I have gained extensive experience in the legal field through my work at two different companies. At my first company, Mitsubishi Materials, I started at a cement plant in Fukuoka Prefecture, then moved to the legal department at headquarters, and then to the legal and general affairs department of the Southeast Asia and India headquarters company (Bangkok, Thailand). I have gained experience in a wide range of legal-related work, including contract law, corporate law, compliance, CSR, and public affairs both in Japan and overseas. At my second company, Japan Tobacco, I joined the legal department of the tobacco business headquarters, where I handled a wide range of legal matters related to tobacco distribution, from contracting with tobacco farmers to reviewing sales promotion measures for tobacco products, as well as personnel and labor matters (harassment-related, etc.) for approximately two and a half years. I then transferred to the overseas relations department, where I was responsible for liaison with embassies in North and South America in Tokyo. After a year and a half, I moved to the North and South America headquarters in Miami, USA, and then to the tobacco business headquarters company in Geneva, Switzerland, where I worked as an overseas relations representative for another year and three months. I am currently responsible for overseas media relations at the Tokyo headquarters.
