Background

About Tamara Eid

Aspiring Clinical Psychologist | Researcher | Advocate for Global Mental Health I’m currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology at Columbia University, following my undergraduate studies in Psychology at UCLA. My academic and professional journey has been driven by a deep commitment to advancing mental health care through innovative research and culturally sensitive practices. At Columbia’s READ Lab, I’m engaged in the development of Emotion Regulation Therapy (ERT), which focuses on understanding and treating chronic and recurrent forms of distress and perseverative negative thinking (PNT), such as worry, rumination, and self-criticism. These patterns are prevalent across various diagnoses and contexts. Our research employs an affect science perspective to delve into these conditions, especially in their most complex forms—characterized by high levels of comorbidity, persistent symptoms, poor life satisfaction, and resistance to treatment. Our goal is to expand our understanding of their etiology, development, and maintenance throughout the lifespan. At the Bloch-Elkouby Lab at Mount Sinai, my work focuses on suicide prevention and the development of effective approaches to recognize and address imminent risk for suicidal behaviors. We are also dedicated to psychotherapy process and outcome research, exploring how interpersonal dynamics and cultural factors influence the therapeutic relationship between therapists and patients. By collaborating with research teams both domestically and internationally, as well as with academic institutions, healthcare organizations, and community groups, we aim to foster innovation, enhance research quality, and ultimately develop more effective interventions and treatments. My professional goal is to expand the scope of psychology to address global mental health challenges. I am passionate about developing culturally sensitive therapies and improving accessibility for underserved populations. With plans to pursue a PhD in Clinical Psychology, my aspirations include becoming a professor, clinical psychologist, and researcher committed to making a global impact in mental health. Feel free to connect if you share an interest in advancing mental health care or if you’d like to discuss innovative approaches to therapy and research!
