Background

About Tamara Hunt

My research specialty is eighteenth-century British history with a focus on publishing history. Currently, I am working on a monograph on two women in early eighteenth-century publishing families but I've also presented papers and published articles on related topics. But I also have broader historical interests. I have taught undergraduate and graduate courses at the University of Southern Indiana on the "Social History of Ghosts,""Social History of Murder" and "Death in History." I have given presentations on the New Harmony Gazette, the newspaper published during Robert Owen's communal experiment in Indiana in the 1820s, as well as on the unconventional women in Willard Carpenter's family (the founder of the Willard Library in Evansville in the 1870s). I collect Indiana ghost stories and around Halloween, I often get invited to tell them at local venues.
