About Tamara Leyrer

From 1996-2005 I lived and worked in Taipei,Taiwan. I studied Mandarin Chinese at the Taipei Language Institute for four years, substitute taught at Morrison Academy Bethany Campus and worked for the Oh America Overseas Education Agency as a website writer. Currently I am the International Admissions Counselor at St. Croix Lutheran High School and Middle School and an instructor of ESL Level 1, and Mandarin Chinese levels As Admissions Counselor I recruit Chinese students, advise Chinese families looking for US Education opportunities, present to groups of Chinese students and families, cooperate with Chinese education agencies, and assist in developing and maintaining marketing in the Chinese market.for St. Croix's International program. My current work includes training new staff in cross-cultural understandings, implementing and running the International Student Orientation, the American Mentor to a New International Student Program, the International Festival, and the Volunteering Program for International students. I have successfully organized and conducted 4 student service and education short term summer China trips bringing high school students to China to broaden their knowledge of the world and become more cross-culturally adept. I give presentations for Middle School, High School, and Colleges and Universities entitled "Encouraging a Global Perspective in Schools with International Student Programs". The presentation includes examples of purposeful programs to encourage cross-cultural integration and the basics of cross-cultural understandings and intercultural communication. I have a Masters of Education in World Language Instruction from Concordia College Moorhead, MN.
