Background
About Tammy Fortune
I find these types of things difficult to write because I don’t think people need flowery language, or a string of thoughts that sound pretentious. So, I’ll just give you a rundown of the facts (which is much easier than reading my very extensive and exhaustive resume): I am a Child of Deaf Adults (CODA) who is a Nationally Certified Sign Language interpreter with an extensive history of professional American Sign Language/English interpreting experience. My experience ranges from K-12 to post secondary level educational interpreting, mental health interpreting, technical computer/math interpreting, business/corporate interpreting, medical interpreting, video relay interpreting, theater interpreting, religious (primarily Protestant) interpreting, video remote interpreting, and legal interpreting, to name a few areas where I am well-versed. I have been teaching and mentoring in both ASL and Interpreting, as well as teaching workshops for quite some time in an effort to give back to the profession and lift up others who are out there doing the work, especially those who are isolated practitioners. I have served as my state interpreting organization’s (Virginia RID) District Representative in two different districts, Vice President, and President. I also have my Masters degree in Business Administration and I am currently pursuing my Doctorate in Business Administration with a cognate in Leadership. I have experience in Human Resources, as well as leading a team of interpreters. At the heart of all of these roles, is my love for clear, transparent communication as well as a deep appreciation for the people whom I serve. I value people and their unique contributions to their work and to society. Who knows what lies ahead for the future? I am willing to explore that with you, to find how best to elevate people, and see how we can be mutually beneficial for one another.
