About Tania Mitchell

Dr Tania Mitchell is a registered small animal veterinarian with a special interest in exotic pets, birds and wildlife. Having always wanted to be a vet, she studied a Bachelor of Science (Zoology) at The University of Melbourne then a Bachelor of Veterinary Science at Massey University graduating with Distinction in 2008 with a specialty in wildlife and exotic pets. She subsequently passed the NAVLE (North American Veterinary Licencing Exam), an accreditation for practicing in North America. Dr Tania gained her MRCVS (Membership of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons) and spent two years working as a small animal and exotics veterinarian in Birmingham, UK, also servicing the Birmingham Botanical Gardens animal collection and the Birmingham Dog's Home. She then returned home to Melbourne, working further with dogs, cats, unusual and exotic pets and wildlife in various positions. Creating Vet in a Van with her supportive husband, Marcus, begins a dream to manage their own veterinary clinic. On the road since April 2020, Vet in a Van is a minimalist mobile clinic set up to provide veterinary services and improve animal welfare of travelling and rural/remote pets whilst travelling full time around Australia living in a caravan. Dr Tania is available for local locum positions during this time. In January 2023, she launched her Pet First Aid Kit, based on 2.5 years of helping pets whilst travelling around Australia and the common problems that occur in dogs and cats, in partnership with Melbourne-based camping/caravanning brand Navigator. Kits can be purchased online at: In her 'spare' time, Dr Tania loves being a mum to three adventurous young boys, spending time outdoors, working on Babyccinos (a new unique App and website directory for child-friendly cafes and restaurants), blogging to empower women's birth choices and relaxing with yoga and a cuppa.
