About Tania Wegwitz

With 29 years' experience in planning and transportation, Tania has directly worked with over 100 communities across Canada and beyond to shape their sustainable transportation networks. Her work has ranged from transit in major urban centres, to regional connectors, to paratransit and demand-responsive services in smaller towns, Indigenous communities and rural areas. It has also supported improving pedestrian, cycling and intermodal connections and a more holistic and integrated approach to land use. Currently VP, Transportation with Watt Consulting Group (WATT), her work spans planning and transportation across all types of mobility, with a particular depth of expertise in transit, strategic planning and governance/funding model analysis. Previous to WATT, she was BC Transit's Manager of Planning and oversaw all long range planning and short term implementation planning for the 54 transit systems in BC outside of Metro Vancouver. Her other experience includes transit scheduling, infrastructure planning, contract administration and partnership development at the community level and strategic planning and business development processes at the organizational level. Tania is passionate about participatory democracy and facilitating processes where the people closest to the outcomes-citizens, passengers and front line staff-can play a genuine role in evolving their communities and organizations. She has substantial experience leading many different styles of workshops, open houses and surveys and has also taught transportation planning and scheduling in a variety of post-secondary and other contexts. Outside of work, she is an active neighbourhood volunteer in her own community. She has done everything from facilitate strategic planning and communications strategies for non-profits and schools, to planting fruit trees and boulevard gardens, making public space more beautiful and building affordable housing.
