About Tanitia Smith

With over five years of experience as a high school English teacher and a master's degree in educational leadership and administration, I am passionate about enhancing student learning and achievement through a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS). As the MTSS Coordinator at Thornridge High School, I work collaboratively with administrators, teachers, and students to implement and monitor effective interventions for 9th and 10th-grade students, based on their academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs. My role involves creating and maintaining data-driven systems, coaching and mentoring teachers on best practices, providing professional development, facilitating MTSS committee meetings, and fostering positive relationships with families and community members. I also leverage my background in English teaching to promote critical literacy, textual analysis, and effective communication skills among students and staff. My mission is to create a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environment where every student feels seen, valued, and heard, and where every teacher feels empowered and supported to excel in their craft.
