About Tanner Wiebe

I have always been a very organized and an attention to detail type of person from a very young age. When I was little, I used to love playing with toy cars and I had them displayed all around my room. Although the display of cars may have looked random to others, I made sure every car was facing the correct direction and that each car matched the type of cars surrounding it. My Mom even tried to create chaos and move my cars around, which infuriated me as I noticed instantly and had to put them back in the correct place. These tendencies have become important to me and have become positives attributes of mine in both school and the workplace.I am a second-year student at Humber College in the Sport Management program, and I hope to make an impact and be involved in change in the sports media. I value respect, honesty, and authenticity which are traits that in my eyes are very often overlooked in the sports industry. Sports has and will forever be my biggest passion in life, which started when my dad forced me to sign up for my local community’s basketball team. We were sat together in the community centre parking lot for over an hour with me crying in the car because I didn’t want to sign up. Since then, I have played five different sports competitively, and at times playing for two different basketball teams at the same time for multiple years. I love arguments based on the sports industry, as I love hearing others who may have a different opinion on something compared to myself. I strongly believe if two people can have a constructive argument, with both sides being able to consider what the other person is saying, is the most beneficial type of communication there is. I want to be able to change the sports media, and that’s where my values of honesty and authenticity come into play. With sports athletes being held to such a high standard in terms of how they present themselves to the public, why isn’t everyone else in the industry held to the same standard?I moved from Winnipeg in a good living situation surrounded by lots of friends and family to Toronto where I knew no one before I got here to pursue my dream of working in sports. With my high self believe in my own ideals and values, I know I will make an impact in sports in some way shape or form.
