About Tara Mescher

I worked as an RN for 20 years in multiple areas of healthcare. I have an extensive background in cardiopulmonary, cardiothoracic, med/surg, neurosurgery, orthopedics, burn, and hospice care. Most recent RN positions were held at the University of Iowa as a float nurse in the critical care division, including the ICU areas and also the orthopedic floor prior to finishing my NP degrees in both acute care and family practice. I am board certified in AGACNP and FNP. I previously worked as a NP in the GYN-ONC clinic at the University of Iowa and was established there for 2 years. It was a very challenging area that allowed me to use all of my degrees. It required me to use my critical care thinking skills while paying attention to family practice issues such as high blood pressure and diabetes. I did extensive education on chemotherapy and cancer education while managing side effects and providing quality of life. I practiced for a year in Family medicine and acute care with FHN in Savanna, Illinois. It was an wonderful atmosphere that allowed me to use both my acute care and family practice degrees. Some days it was a mini ER and some days it was extensive education on chronic health conditions. I returned to UIHC in internal medicine seeing adult clients. I was exposed to taking care of patients traveling the world, primary medicine, acute medicine, and complex internal medicine. I learned and grew as a provider and expanded my knowledge base with great mentors and colleagues. In 2018 I worked for MercyOne Iowa City in Internal Medicine. With my Gyn Oncology background, I am provided a lot of women’s health and still managed complicated internal medical issues for patients. I was surrounded by some of the best clinicians and nicest people in this world. I was blessed to return home to my community to run my own family practice and urgent care clinic. I am extremely humbled to have this opportunity. After 17 years of traveling and thousands of miles, I look forward to giving back to my community and having more time with my family. I am blessed to be living my passion, and helping to improve healthcare for patients.
