About Tara Murphy

As an associate faculty at Irvine Valley College, I teach adult English as a second language (ESL) courses with a focus on all skills for adult English language learners including, reading, writing, speaking, and listening. I also enjoy incorporating technology skills that enhance learners' abilities to move forward in their goals. With over eight years of teaching experience, I have developed and delivered engaging, relevant, and personalized curricula and instruction that meet the diverse needs and goals of my learners. I have also collaborated with other faculty and staff to coordinate and execute employee training and development initiatives that enhance the quality and effectiveness of teaching and learning practices. I hold a master's degree in teaching English as a second language (TESOL) from California State University-Fullerton, and I am a certified paralegal. I am passionate about creating learner-centered spaces that foster communication, collaboration, and cross-cultural competence. I am an early adopter of educational technology and I constantly explore and integrate emerging tools and platforms that facilitate student-centered, personalized learning. As a first-generation college graduate and a bilingual Spanish speaker, I can relate to and support many of my students' academic, socioeconomic, and cultural challenges and aspirations. I am committed to advancing equitable and inclusive education and training opportunities for all learners.
