About Tara Saunders

In my family, we say helping people runs in our DNA. I am no exception. Just like my grandfather, I am working hard to pursue a career as a Social Worker. Specifically, I am passionate about making a difference in the lives of our children and youth. With extensive experience in childcare roles, I have developed a deep understanding of the needs and challenges faced by young individuals. My undergraduate degree in Sociology and Psychology provided me with the academic reading, writing and research skills, as well as social theory. As a graduate of the Social Service Worker program, I gained hands-on experience to diversify my skills and expand my horizons through my field placement experiences at the Durham College Access and Support Centre, and the AIDS Committee of Durham Region. Being a crisis line volunteer with the Durham Rape Crisis Centre had solidified skills I have learned in the SSW program such as crisis intervention, rapport building and advocacy. I am on a lifelong journey to increase my social advocacy skills, cultural competence and decolonize my learning to support vulnerable populations. As a highly patient and empathetic person, my guarantee is delivering dependable compassion. Like what you're reading? Let's connect!
