About Tara Sims

I am an experienced professional with a unique information science background, as well as a track record of skillful collections management, classification, and archival processing. Over the course of my career, I have acquired a reputation for the meticulous, yet efficient degree of care I apply to my work while attending to the preservation and access of collection materials. My experience includes, but is not limited to, the following:~ Evaluating materials to verify their authenticity, historical content, and physical condition;~ Identifying defects and determining the appropriateness of the inclusion of materials in collections;~ Preserving collections properly by leveraging various conservation and storing techniques;~ Developing and maintaining organizational systems for purposes of discoverability and access;~ Converting analogue material into digital format; and ~ Assisting individuals from the public with research or the retrieval of information. Among my various talents is the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders across all levels of business in excellent oral, as well as written English. In addition, I am highly organized, detail-oriented, dedicated, and passionate about my job, all of which are integral traits for professionals working within the archives sector. I hold a Master of Arts in Museum Studies as well as a Postgraduate Certificate in Digital Curation, both from Johns Hopkins University. Prior to this, I obtained a bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science. Additionally, I have been certified as a Digital Archives Specialist by the Society of American Archivists. These qualifications, in combination with the practical experience I have acquired over the course of my careers, have equipped me with the required skills and expertise to serve as an invaluable asset to employers.
