About Tara Thompson

With 22 years of experience as a visual arts educator, I have dedicated my career to inspiring creativity, discipline, and achievement in students from middle school through high school. For 13 years, I taught 7th and 8th grade, where I built a strong foundation in artistic skills, creativity, and confidence for young learners. For the past 9 years, I have guided 9th–12th grade students, preparing them not only for advanced artistic study but also for post-secondary opportunities in the arts and beyond.Throughout my career, my students have consistently achieved excellence at the regional, state, and national levels, winning awards every single year I have taught. Collectively, they have earned over in cash and scholarship prizes through contests, in addition to securing substantial college scholarships through competitive portfolio work. Many of my students have pursued higher education and careers in the arts, a testament to the skills, discipline, and passion developed in my classroom. My teaching philosophy emphasizes student growth through exploration, technical mastery, and self-expression. I strive to create a learning environment that celebrates creativity while also challenging students to reach their highest potential. Beyond the classroom, I have organized art exhibitions, community showcases, and outreach initiatives to connect students’ work with a broader audience. As both an educator and mentor, I am proud of the legacy of artistic excellence my students have built, and I remain committed to fostering the next generation of artists, creators, and innovators.
