About Tara van Belleghem

Conservation biologist dedicated to connecting science, governance, markets, and society in the pursuit of inclusive and transformative sustainability. With a PhD and postdoctoral research in Geography, an MBA in Environmental Management, and additional training in environmental analysis and environmental law, I bring scientific rigour together with a multidisciplinary and international perspective.I have worked across diverse contexts on environmental impact assessment, risk assessment, and conservation planning, with a strong focus on understanding the impacts of human activities on ecosystems and identifying pathways to mitigate them.My passion lies in building bridges between scientific research and practical action, particularly through integrating biodiversity data with socio-economic perspectives and the voices of traditional and Indigenous communities. I am dedicated to advancing conservation strategies that are not only scientifically rigorous but also socially inclusive and impactful.Currently, I work as a Carbon Ratings Scientist at BeZero Carbon, where I assess the quality and risks of forestry carbon projects. My work contributes to scaling high-integrity climate solutions by combining scientific depth with market insight, ensuring that carbon ratings support transparency, credibility, and impact in the carbon market.
