About Tareq Islam

With over 30 years of experience in civil engineering and public works, I serve as the Director of Engineering and Utilities at the Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD). A registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), I bring a strategic mindset and proven leadership to the delivery of essential services across the region. I lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers, technicians, and operators responsible for planning, designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining FVRD’s core infrastructure, including water, sewer, solid waste, drainage, diking, and environmental management systems. My role involves ensuring regulatory compliance, upholding industry standards, and applying best practices across all projects and programs. In addition to overseeing technical operations, I manage budgets, contracts, grants, and stakeholder engagement to support the successful implementation of FVRD’s engineering initiatives. I’m deeply committed to delivering high-quality, sustainable solutions that meet the needs of our communities, drawing on decades of experience and a strong foundation in civil engineering and public service.
