About Tarryn Thompson

From a young age I have been fascinated with the idea of creativity. I constantly looked for ways to apply my creative juices to every everyday aspects of life. From colouring books and kids craft projects, giving my barbie dolls new hairstyles, and organizing my countless stuffies on my bed in a way that visually pleased me, to the years of using different coloured pens and highlighters for note-taking in school and attending weekly art lessons, the more I look back on my childhood, the more I realise how creativity allowed me to take on life in a different and unique way. I still remember the excitement from my first big creative achievement of winning a colouring competition, like it was yesterday! From that day on, my love for art grew as I did, and I found myself at after-school art classes for a number of my high school years, and favouring the Art and Design subjects over any other. In my mid-teen years, I began developing an interest in interior design as I couldn’t help but reimagine the spaces I occupied. I got lost in personal projects like redesigning my own bedroom (which I continue to do today), and eventually an entire apartment that my family bought for our holidays. The beginning of my college years saw me pursue a diploma in interior design with the intention of developing this into a solid career, but over the years my desire to play a bigger role in the built environment has increased. I left the small African island I grew up on to chase my dream of becoming a designer and live the big city life in a country I had never been to. Although I wasn’t a fan of the idea at first, my undergrad, the beautiful city I now live in, and some encouragement from my dad (got to give the Pops some credit) allowed me to develop a love for architecture, and a passion for designing the world I know we all want to live in. A recent internship at an interior design firm, a very enjoyable and valuable experience, has been the final confirmation that I needed to know that I want to pursue both architecture and interior design. When I am not thinking about design; history, culture and fashion are other interests that occupy my mind. I also enjoy reading, going for nature walks, and spending time with my sweet pup Harley. My biggest goal, however, is to pursue a licence to practise architecture, and eventually make my mark in the world of interior and architectural design.
