About Taryn Johnston

When I was working as a teacher in Kyoto, I almost ran over a real geisha on my bike one night. I was hammering around a corner just as she left her geisha house. I was an Aussie girl in jeans and no makeup, she was immaculate in traditional Japanese kimono. We were worlds apart—and we were also two women united in surprise and fear who shared a ‘woah’ moment. That feeling—‘what if I’d been going a tiny bit faster and not looking where I was going and killed a national treasure?’—has always stuck with me. In a lot of ways, it informs what I do. Truth is, like me and the geisha, we all have sliding door micro-moments of choice. Tiny things we could adjust within ourselves that would amplify who we could be and what happens next. These choices are what I show leaders who want to lead better and have influence. Leaders who want to create cultures that people love. Leaders who simply want leadership to feel easier whilst achieving results. That means they become one of those people they’ve always admired…the ones who are able to flow through their days with calm and grounded confidence, master relationships, deliver results, display remarkable focus, creativity and drive, and comfortably navigate uncertainty with optimistic clarity. My background includes a lot of chosen paths, including educational leadership, Positive Psychology and Neuro Linguistic Programming. I have multiple coaching qualifications and top skills including mind mastery, emotional intelligence and intimacy, and hypnotherapy. If you’re looking for a high energy coach yelling through a headset at a huge audience, it’s not me. I use heart and warmth for success, along with proven strategies, tools and evidence-based approaches. I do what I do because every single one of the leaders I work with not only feels more effective and impactful at work, but takes that positivity home to those they love most. Other things that might be handy to know about me: I would wear sneakers every day if I could, I’m a hands-on mother of two so I’m pretty good at magicking up fun…and I dream of living in a simple, beautiful house by the beach. And sometimes in my dreams I still see that geisha. I’d love to tell her she gave me a career I love that creates wonderful change in people’s lives.
