About Taylor Herbert

As a staff attorney with over seven years of experience, I am passionate about providing high-quality legal representation and advocacy for indigent clients facing serious criminal charges and mental health challenges. I am currently working as a staff attorney at Public Defender Services of Lane County, where I handle cases as primary attorney that are charged under Measure 11. I am also co-counsel on cases including Jessica’s Law and Murder. As a member of the Mental Health Team, I also represent clients held on involuntary holds in civil commitment proceedings and have developed skills relating to fitness to proceed concerns. I am motivated by the mission and values of the organization, and I strive to uphold the dignity and rights of every client I serve. Prior to joining Public Defender Services of Lane County, I was a senior deputy state public defender at Colorado State Public Defender, where I managed a caseload of felony trial cases, including addressing issues related to legal competency and restoration. I also represented the Public Defender’s Office and defense generally in Treatment Courts (to include DUI Court, Adult Criminal Drug Court, Domestic Violence Court, and Veteran’s Trauma Court). I was also involved in the Domestic Violence Task Force, a multi-agency collaborative effort to improve the response and services for domestic violence. In both roles, I demonstrated my negotiation, trial practice, and jury trial skills, as well as my ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and clients.
