Background
About Taylor Lau
My story begins upon graduation from Air Defense Artillery (ADA) Basic Officer Leader’s Course at Fort Sill, OK, when I moved to Fort Bliss, TX. to begin my time as a Platoon Leader. My first year in the Army was an incredible experience, made better by the bonds forged during a Patriot Missile Battery deployment, and the experience and knowledge that came with it. My next assignment was as the aide de camp for the Commanding General of the 32d Army Air and Missile Defense Command. I had the opportunity to see places and things I had never imagined and listen to and learn from some of the best leaders in the Military. This was followed by another deployment, time as a Brigade Plans Officer, ADA Fire Control School, event planning, and another stint at Fort Sill. I deployed for a third time to the Middle East as an Assistant Operations Officer and then as a Liaison Officer. It was during this deployment that I made friends I will never forget and began to appreciate the integral part that Air Defense plays in the “big picture” of the defense world. January 8, 2018, marked what was without a doubt the most daunting and rewarding time of my Army career - the day I took command. Looking back on that day, I was in no way prepared for the 27 months that would follow, or for the people that I would have the privilege of serving with. Next, I moved to Fort Knox, Kentucky to serve as a Board Recorder in the Department of the Army Secretariat facilitating the promotion and selection boards of Staff Sergeants through Major Generals. While there, I was selected to attend the Naval War College in Rhode Island where I was surrounded by Joint and Coalition partners who taught me more than I had thought possible. Over the past year and a half, I have served as the Executive Officer and Battalion Operations Officer during the re-activation of the Army’s first divisionally aligned M-SHORAD unit. I have learned a lot about myself and the Army and am grateful for the opportunities I have been provided. As I begin my transition, I am excited to see what my next chapter has in store, and I look forward to sharing my experiences with those that have come before and those who will follow. Outside of being a professional workaholic, I love horseback riding, the Green Bay Packers and playing frisbee with my Chocolate Labrador Patron.
