About Taylor Rubin

My current community work and research is centered on addressing colonial injustices and systemic barriers contributing to the overincarceration and criminalization of Indigenous peoples by improving access to restorative and transformative justice in the Alberta judicial system. I have come to this work through engagement in community-led education, anti-oppressive instructional design, cultural-exchange programming, trauma-informed practice, critical pedagogy, and collaborative experiential-learning programs across communities. I am a queer, third generation Jewish settler of Norwegian and Polish descent from amiskwacîwâskahikan, colonially known as Edmonton on Treaty 6 and Métis Territory where I graduated with my B.Ed and a certificate in Community Engagement and Service-Learning. I am currently situated in Tiohtià:ke/Montréal on the unceded lands of the Kanien’kehà:ka. These places, intersections, and those who I have met along my journey have shaped my understanding of Treaty relationships and settler accountability, informing my place and responsibilities in this work. I have worked as a community educator supporting Treaty relationship-building and teacher capacity-building in schools for seven years and a Gladue Writer for Alberta Justice in support of transformative justice and Indigenous sovereignty for five years. I recently completed my Masters in Education and Society in Critical Race, Class and Gender Studies at McGill University.
